As someone who has been working from home full-time for the past few years, my life has been made tremendously happier and more fulfilling thanks for my cat.
Find out why in this article.
Why Do Home Workers Need a Cat?
This is my post #1 on this blog, and I never thought that it’d be about cats.
Blogging is not something new to me, I have been writing for my niche blogs for about four to five years now.
I have always wanted to have a blog that allows me to write about anything that I want.
But some of you may know that it’s not always possible with niche blogs. For example, it just doesn’t make sense to write about cats on a blog about lawn mower (or does it?).
Not that I have a niche site about lawnmowers, it’s just an example.
Anyway, let’s talk about why are cats such awesome companions for people like me who work at home.
I have a white cat that has been with me for slightly more than two years now.
He’s one of the best things that have happened to me in the last few years.
Affectionate, cuddly, but not without some trace of naughtiness. He is a lovely little furball.
His positive influence on my home-based business has inspired me to write this post.
Below are some reasons why you must get a cat if you run a home-based business or have a work-from-home job.
Some people misunderstand that working from home means that you’re effectively retired.
Quite the opposite.
When you work from home, you live with your work. You have nowhere else to run to.
The stress and the unfinished work now live with you under the same roof. Without the physical separation of work and life, everything feels somewhat chaotic.
Cats are unassuming little creatures. Their actions are adorable, their expressions are innocent. They look graceful in the way they carry themselves.
When they love you, they purr. They don’t care about your work-life separation and your stress. When you are with them, that’s how you will feel too. You pick up their philosophy slowly.
They seem so fully present every moment. When they play, they play. When they eat, they eat. It’s almost zenlike.
That’s how your life should be. When you work, you work. When you are not working, you shouldn’t be working.
This is especially true for those of you who work at home alone.
Yes, working alone without interruption is good for productivity.
But even the most introverted of us feel lonely after a couple months working in isolation.
A cat adds balance to that situation.
First of all, the cat is a very independent animal. It requires a minimal amount of care.
He will meow and meow and meow when he’s hungry, and he does require some minimal amount of playtime.
But once his basic needs are satisfied, he’d be happy to just laze next to you as you work.
The internet loves cats!
If you are an influencer, the appearance of your cat in your content can definitely help to attract more followers.
Ok, maybe that wouldn’t work for all influencers, but for most influencers, I think that’s a sound strategy.
For influencers in the fashion and lifestyle categories, that definitely works. Same goes for the people in cooking (little feline helper), interior design, and self-help niches.
The link between the cat and your productivity is not very apparent.
But let me explain.
Having a cat means that you have to take care of him.
Clean his litter box once or twice daily. Feed him on time. Play with him. Give him attention when he seeks it. Get him dewormed and vaccinated on schedule. Bring him to the vet when he’s not feeling well.
You see what’s happening as you fulfill your cat’s needs?
You are actually training your self-discipline in the process.
Being disciplined means that you’re more likely to keep on going with your tasks even when you’re feeling bored.
A disciplined person is less likely to yield to interruptions.
You become better at making a plan and following it through.
And what comes naturally is improved (or a sustained level of) productivity.
Cats are great companions. They keep you from feeling lonely when you work from home alone for a prolonged period of time.
Through their innocent actions and expressions, they make you feel happier.
Taking care of a cat improves your self-discipline, which is an important factor for high productivity.
The internet loves cats! If you’re a home-based social influencer, you get one additional benefits from having a cat which is greater popularity in social media.
